Our finished design!!! We hope you like the concept and overall message of what we hope to do with first thing everyone sees when they come to this amazing building. For some, it is a first impression. For few, it is simply a work of art. And for less, it is the entrance to the rest of their lives….
Film is such a part of life today. It influences individuals in ways we don’t always realize. Images we see sink into our subconscious and become a thread in the overall fabric of personality. While it seems insignificant, film is everywhere. It has defined generations. Much like architecture, it has become a part of everyday life. By combining design and film, we are representing the idea of fusing the old and new. Which is exactly what we are doing with this addition: incorporating a new area to a grandfathered building.
The other side of this space
We are redesigning the front entrance to host a set of steps connecting to the second floor of the building. These steps will also be used as seating since they will face the projection screen. On this screen, films will play for the design students. Not only will it be a gathering place for current students- it will encourage visitors as well as other UT students stop in and see what design is all about. It will also represent us a college in a more dramatic and overall better way than we are currently being thought of.
When we beginning this project, we looked to other architects and designs to inspire our creativity. This is a staircase designed by Thomas Heatherwick.
“You start where you can get an opportunity, you take everything that you can do to gain entrance. You do the little work and you try to find people who can teach you.”
